Spec Guardian
Spec Guardian is a testing tool that turns formal FizzBee specifications into automated tests for implementations.
Spec Guardian turns FizzBee exploration results into tests that check whether your implementation reaches an allowed state. It lets you verify that an AI-generated or human-written implementation conforms to your formal specification. The tool generates Go tests from FizzBee results, comparing the observed state after an action with states allowed by the spec. It runs functions normally and with an error injected immediately before supported I/O calls to check failure scenarios. Developers write setup and action execution code, configure providers in specguardian.yml, and write state observation code.
Spec Guardian at a glance
Key features
- Generate Go tests from FizzBee exploration results
- Inject errors before supported I/O calls
- Compare observed state with states allowed by the spec
- Configure state observation via specguardian.yml
- Test normal completion and injected I/O failures
- Test one FizzBee Action invocation at a time
Use it for
- Verify AI-generated implementations against formal specs
- Test cache-aside patterns and failure states
- Test idempotent requests against specifications
- Test real-world Go projects like apache/iceberg-go
