About whereismyai
An independent directory of AI tools. How products are found, checked and described, how trending, alternatives and stacks are decided, and how the site is paid for.
whereismyai is an independent directory of AI tools: one place to find the right AI for a job, compare it with the alternatives and see what works well with it. It lists more than 3,000 products, from the assistants everyone knows to tools launched this week, and more are added every day.
Every product has its own page: what it does, its key features, what to use it for, the platforms it runs on, what it costs, when it was released, its closest alternatives and the products that work well with it. The directory can be narrowed by category, by role and to what is new, trending or open source. Or describe what you need in your own words, and the AI search picks the products that fit and says why.
What you can find here
- Directory: every AI tool, newest first.
- Breakout launches: products released in the last 30 days that are already in the news.
- Curated stacks: what recent articles recommend using with each product, each tool with its job in the stack.
- AI models: the current models from the big labs, with their context size, their API price and the product to use each one in.
- Open source: products whose code is in a public repository under an open licence, with their licence and GitHub stars.
How products are found
Every night the site looks at the day’s launches on Product Hunt and Show HN (Hacker News) and at new repositories on GitHub; others are added by hand. Each one is read from its launch post and its own website, and an AI model decides whether it is an AI product someone can use today. News, blog posts, guides, courses, papers, datasets, pages with only a waitlist, and broken or parked sites are left out.
How listings are written
A product's description, features, use cases, platforms and pricing are written from what its own website and pricing page say, with the help of AI models, in the same plain format for every product so that they can be compared side by side. A listing says what a product does and what it costs; it is not a review and not an endorsement. Descriptions are written again about every six months.
Trending, alternatives and stacks
- Trending: a product is trending when at least ten news headlines from the last 30 days are about it, checked against Google News and Bing News. New products are checked every night, every other product about once a week.
- Breakout: a product released in the last 30 days that is already trending.
- Alternatives: the products closest to it in what they do and who they are for, found by comparing their descriptions. Something that works with it, such as a plugin for it, is not counted as an alternative.
- Stacks: the products recent articles recommend using together with it. Curated stacks are checked by hand against the articles they come from, and those articles are linked from the product's page.
Keeping it up to date
Each product's site is checked about once a month. When a site stops working, the product is flagged for a person to look at, and taken off the directory once it has shut down. If you spot something wrong or out of date, or want a product added, get in touch.
How the site is paid for
whereismyai is free to use, with no account and no sign-up. It is paid for by ads, affiliate links and the advisor:
- The advisor ($5 a month): say what you are trying to do and it picks the tools that fit. It is the one paid part of the site; the directory, the product pages and the AI search stay free. See pricing.
- Ads from Google AdSense appear on the site.
- A banner on the home page features one product at a time and is marked “Sponsored”.
- Some links to a product’s site are affiliate links: if you sign up through one, the site may earn a commission, at no cost to you. They are marked on the page.
No product can pay to be listed, to rank higher in the directory, the AI search or the advisor’s answers, or to change what its page says. Ads and affiliate links never change a product’s description, its alternatives or where it appears.
