Popcorn
Popcorn is a security workbench desktop application that isolates untrusted code and Claude Code inside disposable Firecracker microVMs.
Popcorn is a desktop workbench for Linux designed for handling risky work such as untrusted code, suspicious packages, and unknown binaries. Each job runs inside an isolated Firecracker microVM called a corn, which starts in about one second with its own Linux kernel. Popcorn protects your host environment by keeping your files, keys, and network isolated outside the microVM. When running Claude Code, the corn uses a fake token while Popcorn adds your real Claude token to external requests. Users can inspect shared folder edits and manually approve network hosts before outbound connections succeed.
Popcorn at a glance
Key features
- Launches Firecracker microVMs with dedicated Linux kernels in about one second
- Integrates Claude Code while storing the real authentication token outside the VM
- Requires manual approval for network connections to each new host
- Refuses traffic to loopback, private, and link-local network addresses
- Imports files by dropping them into the window to arrive at ~/inbox
- Exports files from ~/outbox as non-executable copies
- Syncs folder copies and writes back only user-approved file changes
- Blocks access to sensitive directories including .ssh, .gnupg, .aws, and .config
Use it for
- Running Claude Code safely inside an isolated microVM sandbox
- Executing and inspecting untrusted code or unknown binaries
- Testing suspicious software packages without exposing local network and keys
- Sharing project folders with an isolated VM and reviewing file changes before applying
