The OpenAI API is the developer platform for building products on OpenAI's models. The current flagship line is GPT-6 Astra for complex reasoning and coding, GPT-6.1 Sol as the balance of intelligence and cost, and GPT-6 Luna for high-volume work, each with a context window of about one million tokens and adjustable reasoning effort. Models are called through the Responses API and official client SDKs, and can use built-in tools for function calling, web search, file search and computer use. Other models cover image generation and editing, realtime voice, transcription, live translation, embeddings and moderation, and fine-tuning is supported. Usage is billed per million tokens, with cheaper Batch and Flex processing and faster priority tiers at a higher price.
