Gretel is a local desktop application designed for building focused YouTube feeds around separate interests without creating extra Google accounts. Users create profiles, seed them with specific topics and channels, and let the app discover candidate videos using YouTube's recommendations through YT.js. Embeddings keep feed expansion relevant and adapt the profile as videos are watched, preserving useful surprises while maintaining control over the feed. The app features local SQLite storage, managed embeddings with Google sign-in or access-code redemption, and an optional bring-your-own OpenRouter key mode. Built with Tauri and Next.js, Gretel stores settings locally and offers performance diagnostics to inspect telemetry. It is intended for individuals who want more intentional control over their YouTube viewing experience.
