Bot Reborn
Bot Reborn is an open-source project that converts cheap toy robots into voice-controlled AI robots using an Android phone and an FT232H board.
This project converts low-cost toy robots into interactive devices using an old smartphone as the brain and face. An Android phone running Chrome connects to an FT232H breakout board over WebUSB to control the toy's drive motor and steering. The system handles speech-to-text, chat decision-making, and text-to-speech entirely inside a browser page using OpenAI-compatible APIs. It listens continuously without wake words while the screen is active, and includes a stop word and emergency stop button. Direct barking sounds trigger an immediate built-in behavioral routine without querying the chat model.
